The means and mass of information being communicated has changed completely over the last decade. Facebook isn't just a website for college kids; it has even become a verb. Many event planners think the "speech sessions" are the most beneficial parts of their retreat. I whole-heartedly disagree. My background has always taught me the importance of fellowship time and recreational activities. Am I saying that you should exclude lecture sessions or one-on-one meetings? Of course not! These sessions are key to a successful retreat. However, I do know that 99% of event attendees will be dissatisfied if they have to sit through 8-10 straight hours of meetings. Let's not talk about that remaining 1%. The last thing you want is the majority of your attendees bored into daydreaming. Planning an event is a big undertaking. But sometimes the biggest challenge is getting people to commit to helping staff the event.
