Preparing for the Unexpected

Preparing for the Unexpected

An Example of Excellent Customer Service

A few weeks ago I was in Dallas when the terrible storms and tornados swept through the area. I was to fly home to St. Louis but the storms had dumped hail and battered the aircraft with high winds. Every plane on the ground had to be inspected before it would be able to ferry passengers to their destination. Like thousands of other travelers my flight was cancelled and plans delayed significantly. American airlines and the entire team at DFW served all of the weary, stranded passengers very well...     Continue Reading | Leave Comment

Gas Prices

Gas Prices

Combat the high gas price excuse

Gas prices have been the buzz word for the last several months and I don't believe that it will leave the news anytime soon.  The prices are likely to fluctuate some and they will go up, and while I hope they will go down but am not banking on that happening.  For planners who are gearing up for ministry events this summer, be ready to hear the excuse, "gas is too expensive, we're not coming." I don't just want to be calloused and brush the statement off as an excuse there is no doubt that going to the gas pump is a burden. But the experience your event is offering must be prove itself as valuable to gain more registered attendees...     Continue Reading | Leave Comment

What's in it for me?

What's in it for me?

How activities effect event attendance

In the early stages of planning an event you usually define your main goal for that event. You also decide who your target audience is – youth, women, couples, families, prospective church member, etc. Once you have determined the goal and the audience, then you start planning speakers, music, food, lodging, etc. From this point forward, as you are planning the event, you need to continuously consider wishes of the prospective attendees. If you want them to attend, you need to be able to answer "Why should I sign up, what's in it for me?...     Continue Reading | Leave Comment

Spring Fever

Spring Fever

Seasonal recreation activities

Blue skies, warm temperatures, longer days...sounds like spring is near!  Spring is one of my favorite times of year.  The temperatures are warm enough to have the windows open but not too warm to have the air conditioner running.  Spring leaves me staring out the window of my office more and more...     Continue Reading | View Comments (1)

Focus testing adds insights

I am the kind of person that is very pleased when a project turns out well, however I also have learned all of the things that could have made it great. When a similar project circles back around just doing well again is falling short in my opinion. No matter what the project, event, or 'thing' maybe, there is always room for improvement...     Continue Reading | Leave Comment

Where are we going?

Where are we going?

Clearing the hurdles that prevent participation

One of the first questions a host property will ask a planner is, "how many guests do you expect?" Whether an event planner formulates their response based on history, early interest, and slatted promotion activities or simply takes a guess. The estimated is based on the following: narrowing down the entire target population to potential attendees then determining the cross section who will actually register...     Continue Reading | Leave Comment

Last Impressions are as Important as the First

Last Impressions are as Important as the First

Take home spritiual energy and excitement!

In a recent blog, Zach offered some excellent suggestions for planners preparing for Day of Arrival emphasizing the importance of first impressions. But remember, last impressions can also leave lasting impressions on guests. Preparing your guests to return home and their everyday lives requires you to create a smooth check-out process. The memory you want your guests to keep is the time they had connecting with God, the spiritual energy and excitement, not a frustration over something trivial...     Continue Reading | Leave Comment

What are we going to do?

What are we going to do?

a Communication Plan that engages people

Reading through our event promotion blog posts you'll notice over and over and over again we encourage planners to share the basics about their event. The vital information that effects an attendee's ability to actually show up. That is: Who, What, When, Where, & How Much? Once you've passed that litmus test potential attendees are interested, some may have already begun registering simply because you're hosting a conference or retreat for them. Registered or not they want to know things like Where are we going? and What are we going to do...     Continue Reading | Leave Comment

Hospitality in Queara

Hospitality in Queara

Great hospitality reflects Jesus

On this day in history.... two years ago I landed in La Paz, Bolivia for the first time. On my first mission trip I was completely clueless to how I would even be able to help. It was overwhelming to be there, supposed to be helping, but really unsure of what to do, how to speak with people, but through all these insecurities God taught me one of the most important lessons I have learned to-date. I have had some crazy adventures, but more so been blessed by hospitality that would make a 5 star hotel staff look rude, and witnessed faith that can move mountains. The only thing that matters is Jesus being in our lives...     Continue Reading | Leave Comment

Meeting Space Challenges

Meeting Space Challenges

Use your goals to keep things balanced

Taking the show on the road can be a difficult balancing act. Between creating a unique worship/learning environment and what is feasible for your team to pull off... between space and time limitations... between selecting a set-up that is engaging but not distracting. The list could continue...     Continue Reading | Leave Comment

Events Come & Go

Events Come & Go

But experiences can last a lifetime!

Have you ever walked away from an event that felt more like an experience? I remember in high school, I attended several conferences for a committed I was on. Some were ok, but there was one that still stands out in my mind today. The event has amazing speakers, great dining experience, and had time for us to connect with other schools that were there...     Continue Reading | Leave Comment

Off-site Family Ministry Events Part 2

Challenges of planning Family Events

The first and sometimes greatest challenge any event has to overcome is the simple WHY factor. Why go? Your potential attendees will never flat out ask you, but all want to know the benefit of attending the event. You must convince them that attending this family ministry event will be a valuable life-changing experience that is essential for the spiritual health of their family...     Continue Reading | Leave Comment
