Gather your girlfriends, and let the fun begin!
It's easy to come up with excuses that keep us from setting aside some time for rejuvenation. I don't have time... What will I do with the kids? Our church has never done this before... A bigger issue than excuses is, do you feel like you need this time away but also stuck not knowing what to do? I have an idea, how about a Women's Retreat. That's right just women.
I believe that a retreat can really be helpful because it takes you away from home and all sorts of distractions and lets you connect with God and other women. I think of pivotal chapters like John 3 - God loves us so much that He sent His Son to die not to condemn us but to save us. It inspires me to focus on all the positives in my life, like my salvation, learn to live like Christ, and trust God's grace is sufficient to cover all my problems. I need the people around me to encourage me to keep that focus and a ladies retreat is a great way to meet and build relationships with other Christian women.
Some of the starter logistics can be the hardest, don't be discouraged if it takes a little time for the idea of the retreat to get some traction.
- Dates: Select two or three weekends that would work, poll a few people and select one that seems to work best. It may not work for everyone, but set a date and stick to it.
- Location: Your next step is finding that perfect location for your retreat. Ask to take a tour, get a few ladies to come with you. That will help to inspire them to help you plan and promote the retreat. I love giving tours of our properties, you can see ideas coming to life as we go through spaces and how they can be used for retreat ministry.
- Theme: Once you've decided on a location comes the fun part... How about a theme? A theme will help you pick out topics to study, activities, and even help with promotion. If you are struggling to come up with a theme or want some extra ideas... I have found a website that will take care of this for you. Check out the Women's Ministry Themes link below.
All you have to do is pick your theme and the rest is covered for you. Yes I mean everything.... Verse suggestions, color scheme, general decorating suggestions, games, music, retreat favors, and even crafts.
I love to craft, it's a really fun activity that most ladies really enjoy. Also it is great for building relationships and it's something to bring home to remind the ladies of the retreat.
So put the laundry and dishes to the side, gather your girlfriends, and let the fun begin!
